The Art of Noises: A Futurist Manifesto

Luigi Russolo
Leaflet, 11-1/2 x 9 in.
The Merrill C. Berman Collection, Rye, NY
In this movement of artistic change, art was not only things your eyes see, but also the things your ears hear. This Manifesto argues how the human ear has been too accustomed to the noises of the urban landscape. It also aims to give a solution to this by introducing technology to music; Russolo proposes how electronics and other technologies will allow Futurist composers to replace their “limited variety” with limitless timbre.
